Week Five Original Post #2

I thought Rent was great. It was definetly a pivotal show because it was very crazy and the whole plot was about something that was almost never discussed or showed at the theatre. The movie was better than the play in my mind but they were very similar. I think it did send a message out to all the followers of theater. It was good and I would definetly see it again.

  1. Austin,
The pivotal characterization of RENT is not necessarily about the content, but about the delivery. Wehn Jonathan Larson set out to create RENT, he was looking to create a Broadway musical that didn't feel like the traditional musicals from Broadway's golden age (1950's and 60's). He wanted people excited about seeing a musical again. I think the appeal fro RENT is that it is "real" in so many ways.
